My Little Garden

I wanted to share the flowers in my garden with you.

This is my Savannah Bird Girl. She is the watcher of my double Knockout Roses. There are six rose bushes, three on each side.

They are beautiful this year. We have had lots of rain and warm weather this spring.

Six more Knockouts in the front.

Only one lonely pink knockout rose bush.
It was tagged wrong.

A pair of Whippets stands watch over

the front flower borders. My son bought these for my birthday about twenty years ago. They have traveled to three states and watched over four homes.

The Poppies are in bloom but not the Shasta daisy.

The Nikko Hydrangeas are just staring to bloom. I have four planted on the north side of my home and they love it.

I have three types of Hosta planted. Blue Angel , Patriot, and Empress Wu

The Japanese Iris is just about finished for the year.

The purple sage is also tall this year.

I also have a purple sage bush

but it has not bloom yet.

The yellow day lilies are just starting to pop.

This is called Kentucky Bluegrass.

It is a fine bladed grass.

This past fall and spring, I have been spending time in Florida. I wanted to share some tablescapes from Orange Beach and Destin.

I spend the month of October in Orange Beach and enjoyed

the sunrises . . .

and the sunsets.

This was the view outside my condo.

The peninsula was set for breakfast in the condo. The centerpiece was an aqua blown glass vase and flowers.

I went to Destin, FL, for Thanksgiving and again in the Spring. Here are a few pictures I want to share with you.

The dining room table was set with a bird of paradise centerpiece for dinner.

You can see the island in the background is also set for breakfast.

Lipstick on a Pig

Have you heard the expression of Lipstick on a Pig?

As I was touring the downtown today, I ran across this cute little pig dressed up for spring.

Many of the merchants decorate the entrance to their stores by dressing up pigs.

This particular pig inspired me to prepare a light luncheon for me and my husband.

I decided to use a small pig for a centerpiece.

I purchased this pig at Cracker Barrel.

I thought a red flower tablecloth would brighten my table.

I also found the red salad plates from Cracker Barrel that match the pig. I paired it with white napkins and matching rings from Pier One.

I cooked some low calorie cabbage beef soup and served it with pink lemonade.

Oh, Yes the pig came out in me ! I made some cornbread to go along with our soup.

It was a delicious lunch!

Alphabet Sampler Quilt

Last January, I decided to take a class called "block of the month" at our local fabric store.This is the example our teacher made.

She is a wonderful lady and very talented. I am just a slow learner. Quilting is new for me. I sewed a little in high school and made lots of my clothes. I never had any training besides my junior high home economics' teacher, who I loved. Now, my grandmother on the other hand was the Martha Stewart of sewing. When I was young, she made lots of my clothes and quilts for me. She did not need a pattern. All she needed was a measuring tape. Every time I was at her home, she had me doing hand embroidery work.

I had a love of sewing at an early age. But after high school, I got married and never sewed until after my retirement. I was an art teacher for 35 years.

After the first class, I was ready not to go back . Most of the other classes I have taken were fun and enjoyable. This was a challenge from day one. Each of the 26 blocks were new to me. This project called for lots of cutting and re cutting.
