A Fiesta Celebration

I am feeling so blessed.  A good friend that lived several hours away in Kansas City recently moved less than two miles down the road from me. We had taught together for many years and had even attended classes together while obtaining our Master's degrees. Although we never lost contact with each other, it is amazingly fun to be together. Retirement is so much more fun. We are both new to the area and we both moved here to be close to our children. I just want to share a luncheon we shared to celebrate our friendship.

She has a beautiful bog: jbiggslittlepeices.blogspot.com

The big dish is one that my son brought back from Mexico for me. I thought it would dress up my Fiesta Ware.

The menu consisted of a BLT Layered Salad ( this new recipe came from delish.com), The Italian Roast Beef, fresh fruit and sweet tea. All of which were enjoyable to our taste buds.

Bread Pudding was filling the room with a pleasing aroma. This turned out to be a delicious dessert.

Thank you for stopping by - JoAnn.

Big Star Quilt / Memorial Day

    Memorial Day/Big Star Quilt

There is a beautiful National Cemetery where
I grew up in Southern Illinois.

It is called the Mound City National Cemetery.
I thought I would take this time to share some
memories of the services there and a quilt
that I made for my husband.

The Mound City National Cemetery Memorial
ceremony is among the oldest in the region
and dates to the years right after the Civil
War.  Each year Memorial Day is celebrated
with a service to honor the fallen.

We have many friends and family that are
    buried here.

I am sharing some pictures of my Big Star
Quilt. This is my first big star quilt and I did
not have a pattern. I followed instructions
     that were published online.

I chose two reds and two blues and white to produce a patriotic pattern.

This block is one of four that are created when you put your stars together.

The quilting was even done in stars and
    stripes.

There are three big stars across and four big
stars down for a total of twelve.

I embroidered my husbands service record
and gave it to him as a gift.

The quilt is banded with a red, white and blue
     border.

My husband spent two years in the U.S. Marine Corps and twenty five years in the Illinois National Guard.

I was very pleased with the way this tuned
out. It is one my favorite quilts. Thanks for

stopping in. Have a safe week!

    My Little Garden

I wanted to share the flowers in my garden with you.

This is my Savannah Bird Girl. She is the watcher of my double Knockout Roses. There are six rose bushes, three on each side.

They are beautiful this year. We have had lots of rain and warm weather this spring.

Six more Knockouts in the front.

Only one lonely pink knockout rose bush.
     It was tagged wrong.

A pair of Whippets stands watch over
the front flower borders. My son bought these for my birthday about twenty years ago. They have traveled to three states and watched over four homes.
The Poppies  are in bloom but not the Shasta daisy.

The Nikko Hydrangeas are just staring to bloom. I have four planted on the north side of my home and they love it.

I have three types of Hosta planted. Blue Angel , Patriot, and Empress Wu

The Japanese Iris is just about finished for the year.

The purple sage  is also tall this year.

I also have a purple sage bush
but it has not bloom yet.

The yellow day lilies are just starting  to pop.
Hope  have you enjoyed  my little flower garden.

    This is called Kentucky Bluegrass.
It is a fine bladed grass.
    Thanks for stopping in!
